WASTEWATER LEAK - PROSSER STREET, TITAHI BAY
Wellington Water crews responding to a wastewater leak on Prosser Street, Titahi Bay

Our team have responded to a wastewater leak at the corner of Prosser Street and Titahi Bay Road.

Excavation is currently underway. The pump station is operating but will need to be shutdown before repair. Plans to divert the wastewater flow away from the pipe is being developed as the pipe will also need to be shutdown before repair.

There has been an earlier discharge into the stormwater network. This has now stopped with sucker trucks managing the flow, preventing wastewater entering the stormwater network. Signage has been placed at the outlets into the harbour and water quality sampling will be underway.

Traffic management has been set up on Titahi Bay Road. One southbound lane has been closed.

We are currently completing works on Wakefield Street:

  • Upgrading Pump Station 6 which sits underneath the driveway of the Michael Fowler Centre
  • Connecting the new mains on Wakefield Street and Victoria Street to the pump station

These works are expected to be completed by May 2026.

We are also in the planning stages for future works:

  • Renewing the wastewater main which continues up Victoria Street and into Dixon Street
  • Renewing the wastewater main which runs along Oriental Parade and up Kent Terrace
  • Upgrading the rest of the major CBD pump stations

These projects will increase the capacity and resilience of the CBD’s wastewater network, providing additional options in case of bursts or overflows and reducing the risk of wastewater being discharged into the harbour.

We have coordinated with other civil and infrastructure projects in the area, including Te Ngākau Precinct, to minimise the disruption to residents and businesses.

If you have any questions about this project, please contact: tengakau@wcc.govt.nz.

The contractors undertaking this work are E N Ramsbottom Ltd and G P Friel Ltd.
