Permit to draw water

Application for permit to draw water

Tiaki Wai amalgamated with Wellington Water on 1 July 2026 and is the new organisation delivering water services across Wellington, Hutt, Porirua and Upper Hutt cities. This website is being updated to reflect this change, but some content remains in the name of Wellington Water and is subject to ongoing review.

If you want to connect to the water supply network via a hydrant you must have a permit. For example, if you want to fill a water tanker. You need to apply for a permit by completing the application form and showing you understand how to draw water safely and appropriately from a standpipe or fire hydrant, along with specifying what your backflow prevention will be.
