WASTEWATER LEAK - PROSSER STREET, TITAHI BAY
Wellington Water crews responding to a wastewater leak on Prosser Street, Titahi Bay

Our team have responded to a wastewater leak at the corner of Prosser Street and Titahi Bay Road.

Excavation is currently underway. The pump station is operating but will need to be shutdown before repair. Plans to divert the wastewater flow away from the pipe is being developed as the pipe will also need to be shutdown before repair.

There has been an earlier discharge into the stormwater network. This has now stopped with sucker trucks managing the flow, preventing wastewater entering the stormwater network. Signage has been placed at the outlets into the harbour and water quality sampling will be underway.

Traffic management has been set up on Titahi Bay Road. One southbound lane has been closed.

Wellington Water, on behalf of Hutt City Council, will soon be installing new wastewater pipes parallel to Frederick Street (shown in yellow, in the below image). The current pipes are old, and in need of replacement to reduce the risk of pipe leaks and blockages.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Crews are expecting to start work in late May/early June 2026 and be finished by around July 2026 (indicative timeframe).
  • The work involves installing new wastewater manholes and pipes at the end of the cul-de-sac(s) – between McKay and Russell Road.
  • Most of the work is on public land - accessing the manholes only at the end of the cul-de-sac(s), with some work on private property (we’ll be in touch directly with any impacted private property owners).
  • There’ll be some traffic management in place and parking limitations on these streets while the work takes place.
  • The construction work will generate some noise, we’ll work to keep this to a minimum.
  • All work will be completed within standard working hours, Monday to Friday 8am-5pm.
  • Pipeworks (part of Brian Perry Civil) is completing the work on the ground.
