Bell Road wastewater works
Update 4.30pm
We are continuing to respond to the blockage in a wastewater pipe at Waiwhetū Stream near Bell Road. The bypass setup which was established yesterday remains in operation, and is maintaining normal wastewater operations in the area.
As a result of the blockage there was some discharge of wastewater to the stream yesterday, although the typical flow in this pipeline is reasonably low. We have placed warning signs in the area as a precaution.
We are continuing investigations via CCTV as we determine the best option for permanent repair. We’ve installed specialist quiet bypass pumps which will be in operation until a long term solution is in place.
Update 11am
Last night, Wellington Water crews responded to a blockage in a wastewater pipe beneath Waiwhetū Stream near Bell Road in Hutt City. We began a pumping operation to bypass the blockage and direct the flow into the wastewater main heading to the treatment plant.
Our next step will be to install a temporary steel bypass pipeline over the stream, which will ensure safe wastewater flow while we design and engineer a permanent repair.
