Boil water notice issued for Point Howard

A boil water notice has been issued for parts of Point Howard in Lower Hutt with immediate effect, following a slip located at 78 Howard Road.

Residents located on Howard Road, Church Lane, Nikau Road, Westhill Road and Ngaumatau Road are advised to boil their water before drinking, using for food preparation or brushing their teeth.

Low or loss of water pressure in the pipes does increase the level of exposure to contamination. The boil water notice protects against this and helps ensure water remains safe and healthy to drink.

The slip has resulted in loss of supply to around 165 properties. The slip is also restricting access for repair crews to restore service quickly.

Water tankers are available at Marine Drive and 53 Howard Road, and bottled water will be available from both these tankers if needed.

We anticipate being able to restore supply to most properties by tomorrow (Wednesday 15 March) due to the access issues. Some residents may have a limited low-pressure supply from water remaining in the pipeline. Residents with no supply will need to collect water from the tankers.

We advise keeping water use to an absolute minimum.

Our team are working hard to restore supply as soon as possible. Once restored, it will take a further three days of clear tests to confirm that water will no longer need to be boiled.
