WASTEWATER LEAK - PROSSER STREET, TITAHI BAY
Wellington Water crews responding to a wastewater leak on Prosser Street, Titahi Bay

Our team have responded to a wastewater leak at the corner of Prosser Street and Titahi Bay Road.

Excavation is currently underway. The pump station is operating but will need to be shutdown before repair. Plans to divert the wastewater flow away from the pipe is being developed as the pipe will also need to be shutdown before repair.

There has been an earlier discharge into the stormwater network. This has now stopped with sucker trucks managing the flow, preventing wastewater entering the stormwater network. Signage has been placed at the outlets into the harbour and water quality sampling will be underway.

Traffic management has been set up on Titahi Bay Road. One southbound lane has been closed.

Greytown township getting ultra violet (UV) water treatment

South Wairarapa Mayor Alex Beijen is pleased with progress toward installing UV treatment for the Greytown township.

Ultraviolet light inactivates microbes in water and will provide an extra protection barrier for safe drinking water supply.

Mayor Beijen said that it’s a priority to ensure safe drinking water for the community and installing a temporary UV plant at Memorial Park is the right thing to do.

“The temporary UV treatment container is being installed in the Memorial Park carpark, near the existing water treatment plant. Council has committed to a multi-barrier approach for our water quality and this is an important step in achieving that.”

“In the New Year we will begin a planning process towards putting in a permanent UV treatment solution at Memorial Park,” Mayor Beijen said.
