Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant works to improve odour levels
Hutt City Council and Wellington Water advise residents and businesses near the Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant of planned maintenance works.
Plant operator Veolia is replacing the facility’s biofilter media to help reduce odour.
This work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 14 November.
The biofilter media reduces the odour produced by the wastewater treatment process and is replaced periodically to remain effective.
Residents and businesses in the immediate area may sometimes experience stronger levels of odour while the filter media is replaced.
We want to reassure you we will do everything we can during the works to keep odour levels kept to an absolute minimum. Veolia will have odour blasters operating and will replace media in each of the six cells, one at a time, to reduce the odour as much as possible.
The total filter replacement process may take up to three months to complete, but stronger odours should only be expected for short intermittent periods. Hutt City Council and Wellington Water will continue working closely with Veolia throughout the works to minimise disruption for residents and businesses.
