Unplanned discharge of main outfall pipeline in Eastbourne

Update 17 June

The main outfall pipeline was placed back into service, and discharge to the Waiwhetu Stream stopped early Saturday morning (June 15). A visual inspection was conducted on the pipeline later on Saturday morning, and no visible leaks were detected.

Update 11 June

The flow through the outfall pipline was stopped this morning on 11 June 2019 and the Seaview WWTP began discharging to the Waiwhetu stream. Wellington Water attended site while Hutt Valley Water Services Water Services and the contractor begun to drain the pipeline to conduct repairs. There is currently no indication of how long the repairs will take. A sampling campaign to monitor the Coastal Marine Area has been initiated and signage has been put up.

-----

Our crew have discovered a leak on our main outfall pipeline which runs from the Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant to Pencarrow. The fully treated wastewater is currently discharging into a stormwater drain in Eastbourne.

The leak is currently being investigated. Signs will be posted in the affected areas and updates will also be made available via our website.
