We have a watermain providing water to a large industrial area on Wellington’s waterfront – and it’s in need of repair.
But, that’s not as easy as it sounds – because right next to this little pipe is the main rail corridor in and out of Wellington. There’s a lot of important health and safety considerations when working in the rail corridor – to keep our crew, Kiwirail’s crew, and train passengers safe.
Through working closely with Kiwirail, we got in to do some important investigation work that will help us figure out how to repair that little pipe – on a day when Kiwirail were doing maintenance, so trains weren’t running – which significantly reduced the risk and the amount of precautions we had to take while working so close to the rail lines.
We're always looking for ways to get the important jobs done without causing too much disruption for Wellingtonians.
