We will excavate the road to install a brand new pipe underground. The current pipe will remain in operation until the new pipe is ready to be connected into the network.

Tiaki Wai is renewing nearly one kilometre of the main drinking water pipe running under Wadestown Road, to improve the reliability and resilience of the drinking water supply for Wadestown residents and businesses.

The current pipe was installed in 1911 and is past the end of its working lifespan.

Construction is expected to take approximately four months.

Working hours will be 7.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Our contractors, Multi Civil, will divide the work into several sections to reduce disruption to residents and other road users.

Due to the steepness and layout of Wadestown Road, we need to excavate the road surface to install a new pipe – there’s just not room for drilling or other trenchless options. We’ve worked closely with Wellington City Council to develop a traffic management plan that means our crew can get the job done safely, while keeping traffic flowing.

We’ll also be installing new connections to private property, which will require short water shutdowns – we’ll be giving residents and businesses plenty of heads up about when those happen.

This will improve the reliability and resilience of the drinking water supply for Wadestown residents and businesses.
